Rope Clutches, or Halyard or Sheet Stoppers, or Line Jammers, are used to hold a line under tension, like a Cleat, but allowing the line to be pulled in one direction only, without slipping back. Newer designs, like the Easylocks, Ronstan, and Schaefer Type 2's, also allow the line to be easily released while under load.
